Research
Reproductive function in all animals encompasses the biochemistry, endocrinology and genetics of the unique tissues that enable procreation. An understanding of the physiological systems that regulate reproduction helps us treat the dysfunction of these tissues during disease and with exposure to environmental factors. I conduct research with scientific teams examining the role of ovarian steroids and endocrine disruptors in reproductive cancers and other disease states. Ongoing work with colleagues within the Physiology and Genetics division of the Animal Science department (Drs. Faulk, Saqui-Salces, Urriola) is focused on modulatory actions of methylation agents on the epigenetic landscape of reproductive tissues and the effects on reproductive function. In collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Carol Lange in the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center, we are examining the effects of progesterone receptor (PR) signaling in the early initiation and progression of high grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) within the fallopian tube.
