Major breakthrough to combat African swine fever
The team, led by Gerald Shurson a professor in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences, and Declan Schroeder an associate professor from the College of Veterinary Medicine, used a novel testing method to measure and compare the two viruses based on their ability to survive and potentially become infectious under various environmental conditions.

University of Minnesota takes first overall at Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Contest
The University of Minnesota’s first ever graduate team was the top placing team in the live assessment portion of the competition focused on Dogs and Cats in an Animal Shelter. In addition, the team placed 1st overall in the international collegiate Animal Welfare Judging and Assessment Contest hosted November 18 – 20 by North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC.

National Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest
The University of Minnesota Collegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Team competed in the National Intercollegiate Dairy Cattle Judging Contest on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2022 at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. The University of Minnesota placed 6th team overall in the contest, was the third team for reasons and placed well in individual breeds.
